POSTERS
For the 150th Anniversary of the ‘Trafila’ of Garibaldi and the Roman Republic

The Garibaldi’s Hut Conservation Society and the Committee for the celebrations of the 150^th anniversary of the ‘trafila garibaldina’ and the Roman Republic and other public bodies playing leading roles in the celebrations, have produced a series of posters to promote the various events organised in 1999 in the various locations of the ‘theatre’ of the ‘trafila’.

The posters were collected, organised and cancelled with postmarks issued during the various celebrations of the 150^th anniversary.

The posters are shown in the book “Memoria e attualità dell’epopea garibaldina – atti e documenti del 150° anniversario della Trafila garibaldina e la Repubblica Romana” – Longo publishers of Ravenna and represent sought after collectors’ items.

All the main initiatives of the 150^th anniversary have been publicised with posters promoted by the Committee for the celebrations and with the patronage of the Region of Emilia Romagna, the Municipality and Province of Ravenna, the Province of Ferrara, the Municipalities of Cesenatico, Porto Tolle, Porto Garibaldi and Modigliana. The State of San Marino has also published a poster on the occasion of an exhibition on the Risorgimento. Other promoters include the A.M.I. (Associazione Mazziniana Italiana), the “Pensiero e Azione di Ravenna” recreational cultural co-operative and the Casa Oriani.

Official speakers included: Vidmer Mercatali, mayor of Ravenna, Ennio Dirani, president of the Oriani Library, Maurizio Viroli, professor of political doctrine at Princeton USA, Luigi Lotti, director of the Italian Historical Institute, Domenico Berardi and Sauro Mattarelli, local historians, the Hon. Luciana Sbarbati, Giulio Cavazza, president of the A.M.I., Tino Dalla Valle, journalist and writer, Girolamo Fabbri, doctor and lover of Risorgimento history.

This material bears witness to the deep link of this territory, of cultured and common people, with Garibaldi and history of the Italian Risorgimento.
