Garibaldi reaches Cesenatico
Passing below Acquaviva, then along
paths that rise between Montebello and Scorticata, then descending into
the Uso valley, Garibaldi reached Sogliano towards 7.30 in the morning.
Around 10 o'clock he set off again with his group towards Santa Paola,
Roncofreddo, Musano, Cento, Longiano and Gatteo which he
reached
at 8.30 p.m. Passing through S. Agata and Quattro Bocche at 10.30,
Garibaldi stormed the town of
Cesenatico. (1)
After having surprised and put to flight the gendarmes of the Pope which
he imprisoned in a house in the square,
Garibaldi barricaded the access
roads to the town and after taking a Croatians prisoner and the papal
vice-brigadier Sereni, forced the owners of 13 bragozzi (fishing boats)
sheltering in the canal from the stormy sea to take him aboard with all
his men and the prisoners.
Destination: Venice, the city that was fighting hard against Austrian rule.
