What
is the 'Trafila'
The 'trafila' lasted 14 days. It consists of a long series of events,
actions, trials and difficulties that the patriots of Romagna and
Ferrara (of all social classes) had to face to protect Garibaldi, who
was being followed by the Austrians, and to play a part in the independence
of Italy. These men operated without any material recompense to
protect and prevent the capture of the General, his wife Anita, the
major 'Leggero' and other patriots following them. The area of
activity of the 'trafila' begins with the port of Cesenatico from
which Garibaldi and Anita and a handful of faithful followers embarked
to liberate Venice; it continues in the valle di Magnavacca where they
were forced to disembark, then Comacchio, Mandriole,
Sant'Alberto,
Porto Fuori, Ravenna concluding with freedom in the Forli area. |
